The 2M-PA is the culmination of Ken Holladay K6HCP’s (KLM, Mirage, RF Concepts and now JK Designs) great career designing VHF through microwave preamplifiers! Inspired by EME’er K6MYC, who has blown a few preamps in his day, Ken has built a bullet proof winner with features nobody else has. First and foremost, a high Q miniature Helical Band Function Pass filter passes only in-band signals. Other preamps let the whole world in! The preamp also features a unique noise test that not only proves it is working but also lets you measure how much outside noise may be degrading your reception. Under ideal conditions, keying the noise test will increase the S meter by a calibrated 10 dB. If you only see a 5 dB increase, then you have 5 dB of additional outside ambient noise of some kind. At least you know why you are not hearing like you should. And talk about strong front ends, this one can tolerate input levels up to 100 mW (+20 dBm). During transmit, an extra tiny relay grounds the gate and adds 15 dB more device isolation. Many folks confuse GAIN with SENSITIVITY. Many preamps generate too much gain creating receiver front end overload or saturation. Preamp NOISE FIGURE sets the basic sensitivity of your system. GAIN of 20 dB is plenty to overcome line loss and the receiver noise figure. Be assured, NO other preamp hears better. The waterproof connectors and case are designed for tower-top operation where preamps should be. You simply cannot buy a better preamp! *See our line of full featured sequencers that guarantee the 2M-PA LNA will survive. The S2 and S3 sequencers provide you with finger tip control of our preamp’s power and “noise test” feature, while ensuring you don’t transmit high power RF through the sensitive PHEMT device. M2 helps you do things right!

Works great. Improved my TS-2000 signal to noise. It is built in a weather/bullet proof housing. Would be 5 stars, but... it is spec'd a 0.5db noise figure, but the tech. measured report included says it measured 0.6db?!

I'm very pleased with the 2M-PA 2m mast-mount preamp.
It's enclosed in a very solid and strong sealed aluminium box, with good quality N sockets and control cable socket that looks to be weather-proof (the connection plug is supplied for you to connect your control cable)
I'm using the preamp for my 2 phased array beam antennas for SSB DX.
It survived an accidental 2m transmission from a vertical on the top of the mast; I'd forgotten to turn off the preamp. But no problem, it still works!
One thing I can't check yet is how low noise the preamp is because I live in a city and there's a lot of EM noise around, which is way above the 10dB test signal emitted by the preamp (only when I press the test button on my home made control box).
The preamp had a ticket attached, showing that it was tested for gain and noise level between 144 MHZ to 148 MHz, with a technician's signature and test date. The actual gain and noise levels were written by the technician on the test ticket.
